JUST IN: New COVID-19 Variant: UK and Ghana Travel Restrictions

The emergence of a new COVID-19 variant has led to increased travel restrictions globally. The UK and Ghana have implemented measures to mitigate the spread of the virus.

UK Travel Restrictions

In response to the new variant, the UK has added six African countries to its red list, including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Travelers from these countries are required to quarantine in a government-approved facility for 10 days.

Additionally, the UK has introduced new testing requirements for all international travelers. From December 7, 2021, all travelers aged 12 and above must take a pre-departure PCR or lateral flow test within 48 hours of arrival in the UK.

Ghana Travel Restrictions

Ghana has also taken measures to combat the spread of the new variant. All travelers arriving in Ghana must provide proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure. Additionally, travelers must undergo a mandatory antigen test upon arrival.

Ghana has not been added to the UK's red list, but the country has implemented its own travel restrictions. Travelers from countries with high COVID-19 cases, including the UK, are required to quarantine for 14 days.

Impact on Travel

The new travel restrictions have caused disruptions to travel plans, particularly during the holiday season. Travelers are advised to check the latest entry requirements and travel restrictions before embarking on their journey.

Conclusion

The new COVID-19 variant has led to increased travel restrictions globally. The UK and Ghana have implemented measures to mitigate the spread of the virus, including testing requirements and quarantine measures. Travelers are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
